Members of the New England Society of Medical Acupuncture are licenced medical practitioners who are trained in and provide acupuncture in addition to Western Medicine.

Full Members

  • Possess a current and active M.D. or D.O. license (or equivalent) to practice medicine under U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Have completed a minimum of 200 hours of formal training in Medical Acupuncture (100 hours didactic, 100 hours clinical) or the equivalent in an apprenticeship program acceptable to the Membership Committee.
  • Have at least one year experience in the clinical practice of acupuncture.
  • Be a full voting member of the AAMA.
Associate Members
  • Possess a current and active M.D. or D.O. license (or equivalent) to practice medicine under U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Have completed a minimum of 200 hours of formal training in Medical Acupuncture (100 hours didactic, 100 hours clinical) or the equivalent in an apprenticeship program acceptable to the Membership Committee
  • Are not currently practicing acupuncture or have not completed one year of clinical experience.
  • Associate members must be members of AAMA - either full or associate membership is acceptable.
  • Are not eligible to vote in NESMA business meetings, elections, etc.
Affiliate Members
  • Possess a current and active M.D. or D.O. license (or equivalent) to practice medicine under U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Have an interest in medical acupuncture.
  • Have not yet completed sufficient formal training or experience to qualify for Associate or Full Membership.
  • Associate members must be members of AAMA - either full or associate membership is acceptable.
  • Are not eligible to vote in NESMA business meetings, elections, etc.
Student/Resident Members
  • This free, non-voting membership is available to residents or students in a qualified program who have an interest in acupuncture.  Proof of attendance at a New England medical school or residency in any specialty is required..
